The Property
Can Draco occupies fifteen thousand square metres of protected pine forest on a hillside above Cala Xarraca, with no other roofline in view. The forest cannot be built on, so the privacy here is permanent, not just current, and from almost every room the ground falls away into trees and rock before opening onto the sea. Northern Ibiza's sunsets are seen here at their fullest, uninterrupted by anything closer than the horizon.
Designed by architect Cyril de Commarque and later reimagined by its artist owner, the villa curves around a circular tower that echoes the limestone outcrops it's built into. Sand-rendered walls, deep-set timber window frames and vaulted ceilings give the architecture a handmade quality, while sections of the hillside's natural rock have been left exposed inside the house itself, so the building never fully separates from the ground it stands on.
Inside, a kitchen built around an angular block of green stone opens into open-plan dining and living space, warmed by a double-sided fireplace. Furnishings lean eclectic: brass bedframes, kantha quilts, polka-dot upholstery and vintage side tables sit against waxed concrete floors, curated by the owner room by room. Each of the seven bedrooms has its own bathroom; the principal suite occupies the tower, its circular bath set beneath an arched window facing the sea, and a separate annex offers independent accommodation for guests or staff.
Outside, the pool follows the curve of the hillside, its edge disappearing into the pine canopy below, while terraces and a pair of built-in daybeds catch the sun through the day and the sunset at its end. Gardens are planted with cacti, palm and Mediterranean shrub rather than lawn, in keeping with the forest around them. Sant Joan's cafés and Sunday market are seven minutes away by car, yet inside the gates, Can Draco feels like the only house on the hillside.
